Written for psych_30. This takes place during Uncanny X-Men #274-275, and immediately before and during Adjectiveless X-Men #1-2. The prompt is "addiction."

Written for psych_30, comicverse Magneto. And no, the title doesn't mean what he obviously thinks it does. :-)

Delusion

Evolution proceeds in accordance with the will of God, with lesser life forms giving way to higher life forms. As species evolve, they become more intelligent and moral. Homo sapiens sapiens, the species we originate from, is intelligent, but still behaves like animals, killing those they consider different the way ants destroy ants from a different anthill.

We – Homo sapiens superior, mutantkind – are obviously intended to supplant humanity. Being that we are more powerful than they are, we are the next stage in evolution, and this means our moral judgement is greater.

Mutants would never commit genocide against other mutants. If we destroy humans it is in the same way that humans kill animals which encroach on human habitats and devour or kill humans. Humans would destroy mutants merely for being different, and therefore mutants have the right to kill humans in self defense, but we do not take this action because we are bigots. In fact we are better than humans, this is simple fact. Believing this to be so is not bigotry but science.

We do not despise each other for foolish reasons like the colors of our skin or the faiths we follow. We do not kill each other over territory. We are better than they are. If we ruled over them, we could save them from their own animal natures. We could enforce that they stop beating their women, abusing their children, murdering one another for the stupidest of reasons. We could end genocide. We could distribute wealth fairly, so that no human had greater resources than any other, and no human would go hungry while others eat. We could end war.

I am the only mutant with the power, the skill and the understanding of what needs to be to bring about this Utopia. Charles, my equal in power and skill, is a foolish dreamer who believes that humans can work in harmony with mutants, and will do nothing but stand in my way. Others, Apocalypse and Sinister, are selfish monsters who seek only personal aggrandizement or seek violence for its own sake. Mystique lacks the leadership skills to bring about a new age. Only I can lead mutantkind to victory over humanity. Only I can create the Golden Age in which all the children of Earth, human and mutant, are free of want and need.

If I were to rule the world, I could end all suffering. I could ensure mutant survival and at the same time improve the lives of the downtrodden among humans all over the globe. I could keep nuclear war from ever breaking out and destroying all the life on Earth. I could save everyone.

I must do anything and everything to achieve this dream. No amount of blood spilled, human or mutant, will be too much if my Utopia is realized in the end. Even if I must kill mutants, in order to save all mutantkind I will do what I must.

I am perfectly sane. My goals are rational and necessary. No right-thinking mutant could possibly stand in my way. Any who oppose me are fools, traitors, or both.

For anyone to think otherwise is a delusion.
